Sundays with Sandra: Introduction and Discount!

October 28, 2012

It’s been awhile since I’ve made the time to work through a Craftsy course. I got sidetracked during the Sew Retro: The Starlet Suit Jacket class by the Mood Sewing Network and a big push at work. Well, work is still a huge demand on my time – to be completely honest I haven’t been able to squeeze more than an hour of sewing into the last three weeks – but I want to get back into my regular Craftsy classes since I really felt like they were improving and enhancing my sewing. Before I get back into the Starlet Suit Jacket, I’m first going to take a spin through one of Craftsy’s new sewing courses: Sandra Betzina’s Pant Fitting Techniques. Craftsy actually offered this class to me for free in exchange for a review. And, I promise to deliver an honest review. In fact, I’m going to work my way through the class over the next several weeks and bring you guys along with me. If you want to join me as I go along, you can get the Pant Fitting Techniques class for 40% off through any of the class links on this page. That’s a savings of $20 off the retail price of the class!

The class is divided into nine video lessons:

  1. Introduction
  2. Pant Fit and Patterns
  3. Taking Measurements
  4. Tummy and Waist Alterations
  5. Rear and Thigh Alterations
  6. Crotch and Calf Alterations
  7. Testing your Pattern
  8. Finalizing and Balancing your Pattern
  9. Preserving the Pattern

Since the class also comes with Sandra Betzina’s Vogue pattern V2948, which will take a week or so to arrive, I didn’t want to get too far ahead of myself just yet. So, this week I just watched the Introduction video. Sandra takes us through her start to sewing, and I was inspired to hear just how influential a wonderful and supportive sewing teacher was for her early on. She quoted this teacher as saying to her,

Sandy, you’re going to get better naturally. The more you do it, the easier it will become.

Such a good mantra for someone new to sewing. That same teacher predicted that Sandra would go on to a career in sewing. I’d say that was one astute teacher!

Next week we’ll dive into Pant Fit and Patterns. I hope you’re as excited as me to see what Sandra has to say about fitting pants. I’m also interested to compare her lessons to those in the Kenneth King’s Jean-ius class, which I used to better the fit of my jeans. Until next week!

As a reminder, I received this class for free from Craftsy in return for an honest review.  If you’re interested in taking this class yourself, follow this link for 40% off Sandra Betzina’s Pant Fitting Techniques.

Amy, I think you will find her a great teacher, I took classes from her ages ago in SF and still use all my notes and great tips she gave. By the way, i just made the Thurlow pants again in a much smaller size and they are so great. have you tried them?

Still have yet to make the Thurlows, but I have my fabric and everything! I just need work to calm down a bit. I’m barely treading water here!
